Good morning, guys! I'm going to try and ease you back in after "Spring Break". We finished learning about WWI (1914-1918) before we went on break. Remember, the U.S. entered WWI in 1917, following Germany's renewal of unrestricted submarine warfare and Germany's attempt to recruit Mexico with the Zimmerman Telegram. Ultimately, the Allied Powers (Britain, France, Italy, Russia, and the U.S.) defeated the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire). Germany was punished harshly by the Allies in the Treaty of Versailles that ended the war. Germany was stripped of its military and navy, was forced to pay billions of dollars in reparations to the Allies, and was required to accept full blame for the war. Despite President Woodrow Wilson's best efforts, the United States chose not to sign the Treaty of Versailles and join the League of Nations, because many Americans feared that membership in an international organization such as the League would ultimately pull the nation in to future European conflicts. Following WWI, the U.S. retreated into isolationism and focused on a "return to normalcy". The post-war era was a period of unprecedented prosperity. This "golden era" became known as the Roaring 20's. It was a decade of economic boom, technological innovation, and rapid social change. The 1920's was in many ways the birth of modern America. Today, you will watch an episode of the TV series "The Century: America's Time" that covers the 1920's. As you watch the episode, answer the questions attached below and upload your answers to Turnitin.com.
